Premier League Stats
Premier League 2021-22 season is heading into its final match week with teams set to play their last few matches in the hopes to improve their ranking at the end of the season. Defending Champions could not pull off another runaway this season but are instead involved in a tough dogfight with Liverpool for the coveted England top-flight tournament’s title. With the title race out of hand for the rest of the clubs, they are shifting focus on their squad and are taking account of the squad here are a few of the hidden gems found in the first team.

The first hidden gem on the list is Arsenal’s Mo Elneny. Back in 2016 when the club was signing the player Arsene Wenger had shared, “Maybe there wasn’t a lot of competition because we were the only club interested in signing him. Not too many people spoke about him and he was basically not much on the radar,”. Ever since joining the club, many European clubs have wanted to sign the Egyptian including the likes of Leicester, Newcastle. Since then, the player has spent some time on loan with Turkish teams before returning to Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2020. Under Arteta, it was thought Elneny would leave Gunners and search for a new destination but Arteta believed the player could always deliver when called upon. Later he took part in wins against Manchester United as well as Chelsea. The Egyptian though started just one match this season but his commitment to the club has been appreciated by Arteta.

The next player who has made the list is Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. The defender’s development under Jurgen Klopp has not been on track completely as Injuries had marred his evolution.

The German had added Gomez primarily as a right-back back in 2017/18, by the end of the season he was sharing the position with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Over the years now his role has been quite limited in the Reds squad, Gomez has been since been called upon only when Liverpool academy players would need a rest. The 24-year-old has been serving the team consistently from the sidelines.

Premier League Player DataManchester United’s Juan Mata joined the Premier League giants for a club-record fee but over the eight-and-a-half years he has spent at Old Trafford seemed to be a waste. But Manchester United just needed some time and a different manager to utilize Mata but his recent lack of outing has been a little startling. This comeback though is pointless as he is set to leave Old Trafford as a free agent soon enough. Manchester United plays extremely well with Mata in the squad and his absence is felt in the squad which was seen in the team’s disjointed performances. In the past two seasons, he has just made 28 appearances for the side.

Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko who was signed almost six years ago by Pep Guardiola, he was in fact the third signing of the then-new coach for the Blues. Zinchenko’s status within the first team has all been a bit unclear, Ukrainian but was always there for the England giants whenever needed even if the most appearance he could notch for the team was just 20 in a single season. That has been somewhat less frequent this season. Fifteen beginnings in all rivalries seem like a low return for Zinchenko, whose Manchester City minutes seem to be on the decline.

As the current season now heads to the scintillating final week and the teams are under extreme pressure with everything on the line. With the 25-year-old to depend on City would not run out of quality players.

Premier League Live ScoresCrystal Palace’s Nathaniel Clyne completes the list this season. It has been a few inquisitive years for Nathaniel Clyne. Brendan Rodgers marked one of the Premier League's most reliable right-backs for Liverpool in 2015 and keeping in mind that Klopp could have been plotting about making a scoop, it was the injury that ultimately removed him from the side. A back issue experienced in the summer of 2017 really dented Clyne's experience as a normal starter; another pre-season injury this time to his cruciate knee tendon in July 2019, flagged his status as a departing player.

The 31-year-old who had been part of the Crystal Palace’s roster back in 2012 had even gotten an extension on his contract despite the dip in form. Clyne was reduced to the status of a subsidiary over the years his sudden involvement in 10 consecutive Premier League starts is a ray of hope proving his mettle on the field. Clyne has proven to be a trustworthy reserve for Crystal time and time again.
