Here is a round-up to important events from the January 2019 sporting calendar.

The 2019 Asian Cup kicks off in Abu Dhabi, UAE starting Jan 5. Regional heavyweights, Saudi Arabia are drawn in the same group as Qatar and will be vying to better their performance from 2015 when they were knocked out at the Group stages of the tournament. Australia, the current Asian Cup champions seek to defend their trophy and have been drawn into Group B with relatively easier competition. The final will be hosted on Feb 1.

The Tennis 2019 tour calendar kicks off with one of most iconic Grand Slams, the Australian Open 2019 starting on Jan 14. Former world number one Andy Murray will aim to reignite his career after an injury-hit 2018 when he returns to the Australian Open. Defending champion Roger Federer and world number one Novak Djokovic are both aiming to become the first man to win seven Australian Open titles, while Caroline Wozniacki defends the women's trophy after her maiden Grand Slam win last year.

Formula E race calendar for January sees two races taking place in Marrakesh & Santiago de Chile on Jan 12 & Jan 26 respectively. The first race in the calendar was held last month in Saudi Arabia with Antonio Felix da Costa racing for BMW winning less than half a second apart from Jean-Eric Vergne. Motorsports calendar will also have Race of the Champions held in Mexico featuring some of the world's best racing and rally drivers.

The NFL Pro Bowl, the all-star game takes place on Jan 27 in Orlando, Florida. College Football Playoff National Championship between Clemson Tigers & Alabama Crimson Tide takes places on Jan 7.

The Men's Handball Championships 2019 hosted by Denmark & Germany will be held between Jan 10 - 27 with 24 countries playing across 6 host cities.
